Greenwood, Indiana is the premiere southern suburb of Indianapolis. That alone puts the town in a very special place. Indianapolis is home to the most famous racetrack on earth, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway which hosts The Greatest Spectacle in Racing, the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race, every year since 1911. In addition to the legendary Indy 500, the Speedway hosts many other racing events each year including the NASCAR Brickyard 400 and more.
Not only does Indianapolis host the Indy 500 (the largest single-day sporting event in the world!) but it is also home to the biggest, most prestigious drag races. Every Labor Day weekend, Indianapolis Raceway Park puts on the NHRA U.S. Nationals. This drag racing event is the granddaddy of them all. With Top Fuel cars accelerating to over 300 miles in the span of just 1,000 feet it is truly a spectacle that no racing fan should miss.
Beyond the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Indianapolis Raceway Park, 'Naptown is also the home of the lesser known Speedrome which holds breathtaking Figure-8 racing all summer long. Among the most thrilling of all motorsports, the races at the Speedrome keep fans continually on the edge of their seats.
Host of Weekly Cruise-In Car Meet
Most towns host an occasional car show but Greenwood, Indiana boasts a car meet every single week. Weather-permitting, each Saturday car lovers gather at The Suds in downtown Greenwood to show off their four-wheeled babies, admire glistening paint and shiny chrome, and meet with friends. Vehicles of all types are represented; pre-war classics, muscle cars, tuner vehicles, Jeeps, and motorcycles. There is no organizer of the event. Everyone just knows that The Suds is the place to be every Saturday afternoon. The weekly gathering draws car enthusiasts from around the state and the collection of cars varies greatly from week to week.
